มาณพหนุ่มช่างทอง
ครั้งหนึ่ง พระโพธิสัตว์เกิดในตระกูลช่างทอง เติบโตขึ้นเป็นชายหนุ่มรูปงาม มีความเฉลียวฉลาด ฝึกฝนจนเป็นช่างทองฝีมือเยี่ยม มีชื่อเสียงเป็นที่เลื่องลือตั้งแต่วัยหนุ่ม เศรษฐีใหญ่ในเมือง ถึงกับว่าจ้างให้มาทำเครื่องประดับแก่ธิดาของตนเป็นพิเศษ เพื่อเข้าพิธีแต่งงานกับบุตรของเศรษฐีผู้มีตระกูลเสมอกัน
เมื่อเศรษฐีได้เห็นลักษณะอันงามชวนหลงใหลของช่างทอง ก็เกรงว่าธิดาคนสวยของตน จะไปหลงรักช่างทองผู้มีตระกูลต่ำกว่า ไม่คู่ควรกัน เศรษฐีจึงสั่งให้คนงาน กั้นฝาผนังระหว่างคนทั้งสอง เจาะช่องเพียงให้มือและเท้าลอดไปได้เท่านั้น
ธิดาเศรษฐีเกิดความสงสัย จึงลอบมองออกไปตามช่องไม้ เมื่อได้เห็นรูปอันงามของช่างทองก็หลงใหลรักใคร่ ลงมือเขียนจดหมายทิ้งลงเบื้องหน้าชายหนุ่ม ความว่า “ช่างทองผู้เป็นที่รัก หากท่านมีใจรักใคร่ในตัวเรา ขอจงมาพบเราที่ต้นไม้ใหญ่หลังบ้านในคืนวันนี้เถิด”
ช่างทองอ่านจดหมายด้วยความยินดี เขารอจนเวลาค่ำลอบมานั่งรออยู่บนต้นไม้ใหญ่นั้น แต่ด้วยความตรากตรำกรำงานมาทั้งวัน จึงเกิดอาการง่วงนอน เผลอตัวเอนหลับไปกับกิ่งไม้นั่นเอง
เมื่อคนในบ้านหลับกันหมดแล้ว ธิดาเศรษฐีจึงแอบจัดอาหารแล้วออกมาพบกับช่างทอง นางเห็นเขาหลับสนิท จะปลุกให้ตื่นก็เกรงต่อความเชื่อที่ว่า ผู้ใดปลุกคนอื่นให้ตื่นขึ้นจากการนอนหลับ ผู้นั้นจะได้รับบาปตกนรกนานถึงหนึ่งกัป เมื่อนางรออยู่ครู่ใหญ่ ชายหนุ่มก็ยังหลับสนิทเช่นเดิม นางได้แต่วางขันทองไว้ตรงหน้าเขาแล้วหันหลังกลับไป
วันต่อมาธิดาเศรษฐีแอบทิ้งจดหมายนัดพบอีก พร้อมกับย้ำให้เขาอดทน อย่าหลับใหลเหมือนเมื่อวาน ช่างทองได้ไปรอที่เดิม แต่กลับเผลอหลับไปอีก ธิดาเศรษฐีก็ได้แต่วางอาหารไว้ให้ แล้วเดินกลับไป
วันที่สามเหตุการณ์ยังเป็นเช่นเดิม ธิดาเศรษฐีเสียใจที่มิได้อยู่ใกล้ชิดกับชายคนรัก คิดปลงว่ามิได้สร้างสมบุญร่วมกันมา จึงต้องแคล้วคลาดกันเช่นนี้ ฝ่ายชายหนุ่มก็แค้นเคืองตนเองที่เผลอสติหลับไปถึงสามครั้ง เขาเดินกลับด้วยความเสียดายโอกาสยิ่งนัก
เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้นเมื่อถึงกำหนดแต่งงานของธิดาเศรษฐี ช่างทองยังคงเฝ้าคิดถึงนางอย่างผูกพันไม่คลาย จึงคิดหาอุบายจัดทำเครื่องประดับอันงดงามประณีตไปถวายพระมหาอุปราช เครื่องประดับถูกพระทัยพระองค์มาก ถึงกับตรัสถามว่าต้องการสิ่งใด
ช่างทองกราบทูลความประสงค์ของตนให้ทรงทราบ พระมหาอุปราชกลับเห็นชอบด้วยพร้อมออกอุบายช่วยเหลือ โดยให้นายช่างทองปลอมเป็นหญิงแล้วพามาบ้านท่านเศรษฐี รับสั่งกับท่านเศรษฐีว่า พระองค์ต้องไปปราบกบฏชายแดน และขอฝากน้องสาวไว้ให้ธิดาเศรษฐีดูแล โดยห้ามให้ใครมารบกวน
ตั้งแต่วันนั้นมา ชายหนุ่มช่างทองได้เพลิดเพลินอยู่กับธิดาเศรษฐี สมความปรารถนาตลอดเวลาสามเดือน พระมหาอุปราชจึงมารับกลับไป และจากการผิดศีลในครั้งนี้ ได้ทำให้เขาต้องตกนรกเวียนวนอยู่ในอบายภูมิอย่างยาวนานตลอด ๑๔ กัป
ชายหนุ่มช่างทอง ผู้มีสมบัติอันเพียบพร้อม แต่กลับใช้ไปในทางที่ผิดศีลธรรม ก็เปรียบเสมือนผู้มีอาวุธร้าย เพื่อใช้ประหัตประหารตนเอง การที่เขาต้องตกนรก เพราะตกเป็นทาสของอารมณ์รักใคร่ นับเป็นความสูญเสียครั้งยิ่งใหญ่ในหนทางการสร้างบารมี
หากย้อนเวลากลับไปได้ ชายหนุ่มช่างทอง คงจะไม่แตะต้องธิดาเศรษฐีเลย แม้แต่เพียงปลายเล็บ เพราะความสุขเพียงชั่วยามที่เขาได้รับนั้น ช่างไม่คุ้มค่าเลยเมื่อเทียบกับความทุกข์ทรมานอันยาวนานในนรกภูมิ
ในโลกที่เต็มไปด้วยความรักใคร่อันเย้ายวนใจนี้ จึงมีเพียงผู้ที่รักษาศีลเท่านั้น ที่จะอยู่รอดปลอดภัย สามารถรักษาฐานะแห่งความเป็นมนุษย์ไว้ได้ โดยไม่ใช้ชีวิตผิดพลาด เพราะตกเป็นทาสของความรักใคร่
年轻的金匠
从前，菩萨转世为一个金匠家庭的孩子。他长大后成为一位英俊的青年，天资聪颖，经过勤奋学习，成为了一位技艺精湛的金匠，年纪轻轻就声名远扬。城中一位大富商特地聘请他为自己的女儿制作首饰，为即将与门当户对的富商之子完婚做准备。
当富商看到这位金匠英俊潇洒的容貌时，担心自己美丽的女儿会爱上这位身份低微的金匠。于是，富商命人在两人之间竖起隔墙，只留下一个能让手和脚穿过的缝隙。
富商的女儿心生好奇，便从缝隙中偷看。当她看到金匠俊美的容貌时，立刻倾心爱慕。她写了一封信扔给金匠，信上写道：”亲爱的金匠，如果你也爱慕我，今晚请到宅院后的大树下与我相会。”
金匠读信后心中欢喜，等到夜晚便偷偷来到那棵大树下等候。但因为整日劳累，他困倦不已，竟靠着树枝不知不觉睡着了。
等到家里的人都睡了，富翁的女儿也悄悄准备了食物，出来见金匠。她看到他睡得正熟，因为相信唤醒他人会遭受一劫之罪入地狱的说法而不敢叫醒他。等了许久，见他仍在熟睡，她只好将金盘放在他面前，然后悄然离去。
第二天，富商的女儿又扔下一封信约他见面，并叮嘱他要保持清醒，不要像昨天一样睡着。金匠又去同一地点等候，却又一次睡着了。富商的女儿只好再次留下食物离开。
到了第三天，情况仍然如此。富商的女儿伤心地想，可能是因为前世没有共同积累福德，今生才会如此错过。金匠也对自己连续三次睡着，导致错失良机而感到遗憾、懊恼。
隔早上天，到了富商女儿成亲的日子。金匠仍然对她念念不忘，于是想出主意，制作了一件精美绝伦的首饰献给太子，结果深得太子欢心，便问金匠想要什么回报。
金匠将自己的心愿告诉太子。太子同意帮助他，让他假扮成女子，带到富商家中，告诉富商说这是他的妹妹，因为要去平定边境叛乱，想请富商女儿照顾，并且不准任何人打扰。
从那以后，年轻的金匠如愿与富商的女儿共度三个月。之后太子来接他离开。因为这次破戒违背伦理道德，他堕入地狱，在恶道中轮回了整整十四劫之久。这位年轻的金匠虽然才能出众，却因为破戒违背伦理道德，就像拿着利刃伤害自己。他堕入地狱，是因为沦为爱欲的奴隶，这是修行波罗密道上巨大的损失。
如果能重来，年轻的金匠一定不会碰触富商的女儿，即使是指尖也不会。因为那短暂的欢愉与地狱中漫长的痛苦相比，实在是得不偿失。
在这个充满诱惑的世界里，只有持守戒律的人才能安然无恙，在轮回流转中保持人身，不会因为沦为爱欲的奴隶而误入歧途。
The Young Goldsmith
Once, the Bodhisattva was born into a family of goldsmiths. He grew up to be a handsome young man, intelligent and skilled, training until he became an excellent goldsmith, renowned for his craftsmanship at a young age. A wealthy merchant in the city specially hired him to make jewelry for his daughter, who was to marry the son of a merchant of equal social status.
When the wealthy merchant saw the goldsmith’s captivating appearance, he worried that his beautiful daughter might fall in love with the goldsmith, who came from a lower social class and thus considered unsuitable. To prevent this, the merchant ordered workers to build a wall between the two, with only a small gap through which hands and feet could pass.
The merchant’s daughter grew curious and peered through the small opening. Upon seeing the handsome goldsmith, she fell in love with him. She wrote a note and dropped it in front of him, saying, “Beloved goldsmith, if you have affection for me, meet me tonight at the large tree behind the house.”
The goldsmith was delighted to read her note. That evening, he secretly went to the tree and waited. However, due to the exhaustion from working all day, he accidentally fell asleep on the tree branch.
After everyone in the house had gone to bed, the merchant’s daughter prepared food and went to meet the goldsmith. Seeing him fast asleep, she hesitated to wake him due to the belief that waking someone from sleep would incur bad karma, resulting in condemnation in hell for an entire eon. She waited for a while, but since he did not wake, she left the food in front of him and returned.
The next day, she sent another note, urging him not to fall asleep like the previous night. The goldsmith returned to the tree that night but again fell asleep due to fatigue. She once again left food for him and returned home.
On the third night, the same incident occurred. Disheartened, the merchant’s daughter concluded that they were not destined to be together. Meanwhile, the goldsmith felt frustrated with himself for losing the opportunity.
The day of the daughter’s wedding arrived, and though the goldsmith continued to long for her, he devised a plan. He crafted a beautiful and intricate piece of jewelry and presented it to the crown prince. The prince was so pleased that he asked the goldsmith what he desired in return. The goldsmith revealed his wish to be with the merchant’s daughter.
The prince agreed and devised a plan. He disguised the goldsmith as a lady and introduced him to the merchant, claiming she was his sister and requesting that she stay at the merchant’s house under the care of his daughter while he dealt with border unrest.
For three months, the goldsmith lived with the merchant’s daughter, fulfilling his desires. Afterward, the prince returned and took the goldsmith back. However, due to his violation of moral precepts, the goldsmith faced severe consequences. He was condemned to hell and endured the suffering of the lower realms for fourteen eons.
The goldsmith, who possessed exceptional skills and opportunities, had used them immorally. He became a victim of his desires, which led to his downfall. If he could turn back time, he would not have even touched the merchant’s daughter, realizing that the fleeting moments of pleasure were not worth the prolonged suffering in hell.
In a world filled with the allure of love, only those who adhere to moral precepts can remain safe and retain their humanity, avoiding the traps of desire.
