He was born into different lives in both the unfortunate and fortunate realms. In the human realm, he was an emperor, great king, common king, colonized king, great billionaire, common millionaire, middle-class earner, and even a beggar, basically all kinds of life. He then found out that there is nothing greater than Nibbana and that he better search for the way to attain Nibbana. So, he gave away all his belongings and even his lives in order to attain inner Dhamma, Dhamma Sphere, Inner Bodies, and the truth of life. People who are ordained as monks are those who have accumulated more \u201cperfections\u201d and are able to resist defilements. If one has a strong determination in achieving so, he will be a field of merit (great person for people to conduct merit upon) and will be able to pass on Buddhism to the future. Such monkhood will bear merits for 64 eons (kalpas), preventing you from being reborn in the Hell realm for 64 eons. Your parents will receive half the merits, 32 eons (kalpas). For those who support or rejoice in the merit of a person being in the monkhood, they will receive different levels of merits for their parts as well. If they support\/rejoice in the merits of many monks, the merit multiplies. The amount of merit also depends on the level of delight they have. a monk is joyful. However, laymen have to understand a monk\u2019s life. Each monk was a layman who had to make a living like others but he saw the danger in the cycle of rebirths, viewed that family life is uncomfortable, full of worries, chaos, and problems, and decided to be ordained. He has to learn everything about being a monk and work like a monk by studying and practicing the Dhamma and teaching the Dhamma to the public. Therefore, it is not right to say that monks are lazy and take advantage of others.<\/p>\n<p>As a monk, one has to do the work of a monk. He cannot work like a layman. A person can only do job. As a layman, one has to make a living. It is then difficult for him to study the Dhamma to a profound level. Thus, we should give an opportunity to a person who sees the danger in the cycle of rebirths by supporting him to practice the monk\u2019s life, learn the Dhamma thoroughly, and then transfer the knowledge to laypeople. On the other hand, laypeople who get tired from work can listen to the Dharma from monks. As monks rely on laypeople for food, laypeople rely on monks for mind development. Both support one another. Therefore, do not think that monks are lazy and take advantage of others. They do benefits for the society as they are moral teachers and role models that the world needs but has never seen. They are great resources for teaching the truth of life and they are persons whom we should conduct merit upon. Therefore, anyone who has a narrow view that monks take advantage of others, you must think again. As monks, they do monks\u2019 work.\u00a0 As laypeople, people do their work.\u00a0 Monks are the least expensive moral teachers. Such ordination will also inspire monks at various temples throughout the country who now start to feel good and turn into the right direction and goal, following the footsteps of the Lord Buddha and the enlightened disciples, which is to attain enlightenment or at least to accumulate merit in the pursuit of perfections. As such, an increasing number of abandoned temples will turn around to an increasing number of active temples.
