I would like to explain the meaning of \u201cDhammayatra.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After being ordained as a monk One must go through self-training in discipline, respect, and patience. Walking Dhammayatra is a practice for newly ordained monks. The word Dhammayatra is derived from the word &#8220;Dhamma&#8221; and &#8220;yatra&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The word \u201cDhamma\u201d \u00a0means quality of goodness, and the word \u201cyatra\u201d means the way of life, or emancipation from suffering, therefore the word Dhammayatra means to proceed with the Dhamma in order to free oneself from physical and mental suffering according to the teachings of the Lord Buddha. Another meaning is Dhamma pilgrimage, meaning a journey to teach the Dhamma. The significance lies in the journey of Buddhist Monks to teach the Dharma en masse throughout the region to spread virtues and goodness, while also being a method of self-training for monks to overcome inner obstacles with the teachings of Lord the walkway with flowers to welcome monks has been a practiced since the time of the Buddha. As seen in inscriptions in the Tipitaka, one can find evidence of the Lord Buddha leading the Sangha of disciples in a Dhammayatra Pilgrimage. Once, there was an epidemic that swept across Vashali City. The people of that city were so tormented by the plague that it was said bodies piled like mountains by the roadside. At that time, governers of Vashali invited the Lord Buddha for his gracious visit. The Lord Buddha, having been attuned to the Dhammayatra with 500 large monks, left Rajagaha, where King Bimbisara had prepared a route for a distance of 80 kilometers with flags and emblems. The path was decorated with tiered umbrellas and flower petals of 5 colors scattered on the pavement, with townspeople living along the road coming out to help clean the streets. She would press some cooked rice into a lump and put it in Luang Pu\u2019s mouth so that he could suck on it during her absence. Luang Pu understood everything and reminded himself not to be hungry but to suck on the lump of rice until Mom gets home. And I will never pay respect to anything outside of the Triple Gem.\u201d One day he was going past the shrine on his boat when suddenly his stomach became quite hard and uncomfortable but he thought \u201cThis is my own problem. It\u2019ll soon be all better anyway.\u201d He also had a thought that one day if and when he could attain Enlightenment, he would return to investigate the shrine. She said that when Luang Pu was a child and went with the oxen to till the paddies, he would pay close attention to the sun to see how late it was already in the morning. She used to fault him for being lazy and looking forward to finishing his work. But, actually Luang Pu was following the old belief that it was very unwholesome for farmers to work the oxen until it\u2019s time for the monks\u201f midday meal (11:00 a.m.). The reasons were that the sun was at its hottest then and the oxen had been working in the paddies since before dawn. Therefore, out of his love and kindness for the animals Luang Pu had no wish to work them past 11:00 a.m. Each day, after Luang Pu stopped working with the oxen, he would take them to the pool and bathe them before he let them loose to graze on fresh grass. He felt good when he could do this for the animals and while he bathed the oxen, he would always sing a song about Nibbana and repeated it over and over again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re born to search for gems.<\/p>\n<p>If we do not hold on to them once we\u2019ve found them<\/p>\n<p>then why should we be born at all?<\/p>\n<p>What we crave is but deception.<\/p>\n<p>What tempts us is but falsehood.<\/p>\n<p>The things we crave and the things<\/p>\n<p>that tempt us make us feel concerned and worried.<\/p>\n<p>So stop all desires and cravings and say goodbye to temptations.<\/p>\n<p>Hasten to leave sense-desire behind.<\/p>\n<p>Continue to follow the Three Aggregates.<\/p>\n<p>Finish the sixteen tasks. And we will not experience scarcity<\/p>\n<p>but will attain Nibbana instead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luang Pu Treated His Subordinates with Generosity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One day while Luang Pu was selling rice for a living, a young girl came by in her boat to sell snacks. She asked Luang Pu to buy the snacks from her and Luang Pu bought everything she had left in her boat and gave the snacks to his subordinates. Ever since then the girl would always come by to sell her snacks to Luang Pu. This girl\u201fs name is Tuam Hutanukrom. Later, she finished nursing school and took up the religious life as a nun. She also undertook Dhutanga in the forest for some time. Much later still, she came to live at Wat Paknam and was in charge of the temple\u2019s refectory until the day she passed away.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luang Pu<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s Schooling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Luang Pu had helped his parents earn a living ever since he was little and when he was 9 years old his mother sent him to study with his uncle who ordained as a monk at Wat Songphinong. Not long afterward, Luang Pu\u2019s uncle went to spend the Rains-Retreat at Wat Huabodhi in Amphoe Songphinong and Luang Pu followed him there to continue his study for about 7 \u2013 8 months longer. From there, Luang Pu\u2019s uncle went to reside at Wat Kalayanamitra and disrobed some time later. Luang Pu went on to continue his study at Wat Bang Pla in Amphoe Bang Lane in the province of Nakhon Pathom. He studied with the Abbot of Wat Bangpla starting at the age of 11.<\/p>\n<p>Luang Pu could read and write Khom script6 very well judging from the fact that he could read the book \u201cPhra Malai\u201d which was written in the Khom script. Luang Pu was a very good student. He spent two years studying at Wat Bangpla before returning home to help his parents sell rice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luang Pu Worked Hard to Earn Right Livelihood<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>About a year after Luang Pu returned home when he was just 14 years old his father passed away. Luang Pu had to take over the rice-selling business which included two large boats and several crew members. The boats made the trip between Songphinong and Bangkok about 2\u20133 times a month carrying un-husked rice from Songphinong to sell to the rice mills in Bangkok and sometimes to the rice mills in Amphoe Nakornchaisri as well.<\/p>\n<p>Luang Pu was quite well off since he was hard-working and he was honest in his business dealings. His business partners found him very trustworthy. For example, after the price of rice had been agreed upon, Luang Pu could load the rice in his boat and sell it before he returned to pay for the rice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luang Pu Possessed a High Intellect<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once when Luang Pu went with his crew in his boat to Bangkok, while the boat docked at Bangkoknoi Canal, an employee of Luang Pu\u2019s brother-in-law stole money and gold worth about 1,000 baht from Luang Pu. In those days, one baht can buy 200 bunches of bananas. Luang Pu informed the police about the theft. In the evening four policemen came by in a steam boat to take Luang Pu to the house of the culprit\u2019s wife at Canal Twelve. The men went in pursuit of the culprit and arrived near the house of the culprit\u201fs wife at dawn. Luang Pu saw the culprit poking his head out from a window at the back of the house and alerted the policemen about the culprit\u2019s whereabouts. As soon as the culprit saw the steam boat he jumped out of the house and ran away. By the time the steam boat came to a stop in front of the house, the culprit was nowhere to be seen. Luang Pu noticed the culprit\u2019s tracks in the mud and told the policemen to keep watch at the corner of the dike while he followed the tracks made in the mud by the culprit.<\/p>\n<p>When Luang Pu followed the tracks to the middle of the dike, he saw the culprit hiding under the rice straws. As Luang Pu approached the culprit\u2019s hiding place, the culprit tried to escape by going under the water but the policemen got to him first. The culprit was handcuffed and brought back to his wife\u201f\u2019s house so that he could tell the men where he had hidden the stolen money and gold. Having recovered about 900 bahht, Luang Pu and the policemen prepared to return to Bangkok. After submitting his testimony to the police, they gave Luang Pu a ride back to his boat in
