As a result, King Angatiraja had practiced the Dhamma since childhood. He had been taught the difference between demerit and merit; what was beneficial and what was harmful. However, on one occasion, he was invited by a wrong-viewed minister to visit the naked ascetic called Gunajivaka. This ascetic taught the doctrine that there were no such things as merit, demerit, the hereafter, the debt of gratitude owed to one’s parents, grandparents and teachers, etc. Ever since the king heard the ascetic’s teaching, his view on life had changed completely. He now wanted to live his life any way he pleased without any regards to moral values and decency.

Princess Ruca

King Angatiraja had a daughter by the name of Princess Ruca who had a supernatural ability in that she could recall her previous fourteen existences.
