On these days, they observe the Precepts, listen to Dhamma teachings, abstain from bad deeds, do good deeds, and purify their minds. There are four Buddhist Holy Days every month that are dictated by the lunar calendar and correspond to the new moon, full moon, and quarter moon days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: of the Buddhist <\/strong><strong>Holy Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was customary for wandering ascetics to gather on quarter and half moon days to listen to the teachings. During the Buddha\u2019s time, He had not established any rules pertaining to this matter. Later, King Bimbisara had an audience with the Buddha and informed Him that ascetics of other religions set dates to meet to discuss the tenets of their religion but Buddhism did not. Afterwards, the Buddha permitted monks to congregate on quarter and full moon days to discuss the Dhamma and deliver Dhamma teachings to the lay Buddhists. This aids in the preservation and unaffected transmission of the Buddha&#8217;s teachings.
